Supporting Special Families, Inc.
Thank you so much for your invaluable help in preparing for my son's IEP meeting. You organized my materials, answered my questions, and explained the process to me. You also gave me suggestions for additional accommodations. You listened to my concerns and prepared me to confidently express myself. You took copious notes and made an extensive checklist to make sure we get what we need for my son to have a successful and less stressful time in school next year.
Having you attend my son's IEP meeting with me helped make it a much more pleasant experience than it otherwise would have been. You were unobtrusive, clearly knowledgeable and very helpful. It was nice to see that the administrators at the meeting knew, liked and respected you. I felt reassured that you were checking items off of your list, and asking important questions that I wouldn't have known to ask.
Thank you also for your tremendous support by phone, e-mail and in your support group when things were so stressful for my family.
You have been a Godsend to me!
C.A., mother of a child with ADD and anxiety
Thank you both so much for all of your help and support. We felt really prepared for the meeting and it allowed us to really listen to what was being said about our daughter and to feel pride in her strengths and how far she has come in the last year and to listen to her weaknesses and feel more confident in asking for help addressing them.
C.G., mother of a child with ADHD
I have known both Laura and Kim for many years through our mutual interest in Special Education. Recently, my elementary-aged son suffered from anxiety and an inability to attend school. Our school district was supportive but did not provide my son with the accommodations he desperately needed. It was at this time that I began attending Kim and Laura's support groups. In discussing my situation with them and the other parents in attendance, I was empowered and able to advocate for my son. I look to Laura and Kim for knowledge and experience in navigating the intricacies of special education. They are both smart, resourceful women who listen with compassion and advise with certainty. My son has received the accommodations he needs to succeed and I am enormously grateful to Kim and Laura for their advice and concern during a very difficult time.
B. M., mother of a child with anxiety
Kim and Laura have provided me with the support and guidance I needed in dealing with my son’s educational requirements. They reach out to the community to educate, guide, share their knowledge and provide emotional support to parents of kids with special needs. I cannot imagine getting through the past years without their support and encouragement.
K. A., mother of a child with autism
I can't think of two more capable, competent and compassionate individuals to represent families in this capacity.
